Anodizing Process

Anodizing process usually apply to the aluminum metal, but the principle of the anodizing aluminum may can be applied to other kind of metal. Aluminum have special properties that different with other metal like iron, alloy. Aluminum will not continue to anodize (rust) once the surface have covered with anodized layer. This oxide film on the surface is extremely thin and loosely adhered to, and is easily removed by handling.

After anodize on the aluminum then have the following characteristic:
  • have corrosion resistance
  • have durability/wear resistance
  • able to be colored through dying
  • electric insulation
  • have excellent base or primer for secondary coating
Anodizing process using sulfuric acid and DC electrical current that is passed through a bath of sulfuric acid while the aluminum being treated serves as the anode. On this process, aluminum will clear or remove their film oxide on the surface.

On the process of aluminum anodizing need several process should be applied in order have perfect result, these are the order of anodizing process:
  • Pretreatment or cleaning using detergent
  • Rinsing using clean water or demin water
  • Etching or chemical milling
  • Desmutting or rinsing in acidic solution to remove unwanted surface alloy particles
  • Anodizing
  • Coloring, anodized aluminum can be colored through chemical reaction process coloring or using dying agent.
  • Sealing, this process is to close the pores of aluminum surface by dipping in hot water.
